Getting a package should be simple. You order it online, it shows up at your doorstep and you have your item(s). Unfortunately, we have to worry about an ever-growing problem of package theft.

Even thieves who would not necessarily break into your home find it easy to snatch a package and be back in their car and on their way. It may take them less than 30 seconds to snatch a package and be gone. That is why it is important to not only secure your home but your property as well.

Security Cam

  1. Install an Outdoor Security Camera

Installing a security camera on your property can serve multiple purposes when it comes to package security. It allows you to monitor when your package arrived and if someone does steal your package, you can have a recording to show the police.

Since you can monitor when packages arrive, if you know you will not be home for quite some time and want to make sure your package is secure. You can ask a friend or neighbor to take in the package to keep it safe until you arrive home.

Tip: Mount the camera is a spot that can be seen. This can act as a deterrent to any would-be thief.

Southern Alarm has great options for exterior cameras. Please contact us today to learn more.

Skybell Video Doorbell

  1. Install a Doorbell Camera

Another great option that can be installed standalone or in addition to an outdoor camera is the doorbell camera. Many smart doorbells offer two-way audio and alerts to motion or your doorbell being pressed.

When choosing a doorbell make sure it has night vision recording, motion detection, and facial recognition and video clip storage. You want to make sure even at night you can get a clear picture of who is at your door.

Southern Alarm offers a great video doorbell. Please contact us today to learn more.

Signature

  1. Require a Signature

Requiring a signature upon delivery is a great way to prevent your packages from being stolen. This can be more inconvenient than someone dropping off a package on your doorstep but will make UPS, FedEx, or USPS hold your package till you are home.

These couriers are required to follow guidelines to ensure that a package is not delivered unless signed for. If they do not follow this protocol and a package is left unattended, they will be liable for theft of that package.

Hold Package

  1. Have your delivery company hold your package for pickup

It may not be quite as convenient as having a package waiting on your doorstep, but one way to ensure your package is safe is to have it held for pickup. Both FedEx and UPS provide this option, call them to ask where your package will be held and figure out if this will be convenient option.

Package Delivery

  1. Have Packages Delivered to Your Work

If you are concerned about packages arriving at home while you are at work, just have your packages come to your office. UPS, FedEx, and USPS deliver to business during normal business hours and do not leave packages if know one is there to accept the packages.

Depending on your workplace, there may be dozens of packages delivered daily and yours may be lost in the shuffle. Consider your workplace and if this is a feasible option.
