Spectrum announced in December 2019 that as of February 5, 2020, they’ll no longer support customers who purchased home security devices through their service, leaving customers with hundreds - sometimes thousands - of dollars of non-functioning equipment.
Spectrum’s history with home security
In 2016, Spectrum acquired Time Warner Cable and Bright House Network in a merger and entered the home security space. Shortly after the merger, Spectrum stopped marketing their home security program, but failed to notify customers until December 2019 that they were discontinuing the service.
Can I use my existing equipment with another company?
The answer is maybe. Time Warner Cable in Asheville did at one time use Honeywell equipment, which can be easily transferred to another company, like Southern Alarm. But Spectrum has exclusively used equipment that is unique to their platform, and it cannot be transferred.
What do I do now?
Spectrum is partnering with Adobe and Ring to offer customers the option to switch over to their platforms and will cover some costs to make the switch. Additionally, Adobe and Ring will require that you install their equipment yourself.
Before you spend more money on new equipment with one of these online providers, give Southern Alarm a call. We can tell you if we’re able to reuse your existing equipment, and we’ll provide a hassle-free installation!
Southern Alarm has been working with customers throughout Western North Carolina since 1936, and we plan to continue to remain a trusted, local provider. Give us a call today at 828-693-7136 to learn how we can help.
