The holidays are in full swing, which means lots of merriment and fun memories and parties to be had. If you're an employer, you may be working on a holiday party for your employees to help boost morale and get into the spirit. There is always some risk involved, especially if there's alcohol, but we have some tips to help ensure a fun and safe holiday work party. Keep reading below!
- Make a list of vendors and caterers for your event and include any other activities if applicable and double-check that everything will be coordinated and delivered or picked up by the date of the party.
- Be mindful of your relationships with employees. Between drinking and employee relaxing during parties, be careful that boundaries don't get crossed and communicate clearly with employees so no one finds themselves "under the mistletoe" which could cause a lawsuit. Clearly communicate expectations and be mindful of professional conduct.
- Stay organized and save those receipts. Holiday work parties are often tax deductible as long as the party isn't overly lavish.
- Don't drive drunk. If alcohol will be served at your work party, make sure that no one drives drunk and/or organize Uber or other taxi services for your employees to make sure everyone gets home safely.
- Consider hosting your work party at a place other than the office. This can help avoid damage to your property and business assets if things get too rowdy.
